Monday once again! But it's also one more new week closer to the hols! At least that is something to look forward to... Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is also showing this week (Rejoice Harry Potter fans), I like the book but the movie so far was dissapointing, maybe it will be 3rd time lucky?
Read from the newspapers that the director was considering a change of actors and actresses for Harry Potter part 5 onwards, Maybe they shouldn't since viewers might not like that but if they do not change it then the actors are getting old indeed.
Rainy weather today again, not that its bad (in fact I do love rainy weathers, since its perfect for hot tropical Singapore), but the heavy rain today caused a tree to collapse at AYE and caused a massive traffic jam, and it was lucky I left home early or else would have been late for work.
Sigh after work still gotta pack some things and move them to my grandma's house... its gonna be another long day!!!

Returned to NTu to meet my FYP tutor. Well he gave me some research work to do regarding DNA fingerprinting/sequencing. The project seems interesting, its regarding the hastening of the process of DNA fingerprinting using gel electrophoresis and ultrasound vibrations.... sounds cheem huh!!
Also registered for the year 4 subjects yesterday and managed to get all the subjects at the timeslots I wanted but the 3.30pm slot registration wasn't so good, the whole NTU system for registration hanged so there was chaos at the Library since all of the students were frustrated and at a loss.... They even tried the telephone but still didn't work... guess it's their luck. Also managed to overload 2 more additional subjects, though most of my friends think taking a total of 21 AUs next semester is not good especially when there is still the 8 AU FYP that is not yet counted. But I can still drop it in the 1st week of semester if the subjects too difficult.
Met up with classmates for dinner at PastaMania at PS and then had dessert at Mac, and speaking of Mac, NTU's canteen A will soon have a branch of Mcdonald's opening... At least there is something new for a change... Though I would have preferred Mos Burger hehehe

Started to play the Romance of the Three Kingdoms IX, very good game, more difficult to play than ROTK VIII but more interesting, in that you have to use more of your brains on this game here. Another thing they change is that all battles are conducted on the same map as seen and the gameplay is also more realistic now that one can attack cities around and the best advisors (Zhuge Liang, Zhou Yu etc) are not as accurate in their predictions anymore...But one part I will definitely miss is the ability to play non-ruler officers like Zhao Yun, Guan Yu, Ma Chao, Lu Xun in ROTK VIII.
Loved the Romance of The Three Kingdoms series since I was young, played II, III, IV, VII, VIII and now looking to complete IX.
Went to this company called Rotary IMC with my supervisor yesterday and viewed a demo on the use of an oil analysis equipment, but they are not selling it in Singapore and its really expensive at around S$40K, well come to think of it, there aren't many Asian companies manufacturing equipments like these, maybe those engineers and entrepreneurs out there should have a go in this industry. Look at companies like Entek, SKF, and lots of German machinery company, the equipments they sell have been the driving force in modernisation of systems around the world.
Good day yesterday, a rally around Singapore's stocks, hoping that it will continue today. Wish me luck!!

Shrek 2 was out last week and I went to watch this hilarious movie with Yong Han, Clinton and Jerry!! The show still maintains the non-natural ending as in shrek 1 and overall the show was good, provides a lot of laughs and well worth it watching it on the weekday. (still worth it on weekends u know) The only bad part was the seating at the 4th row from the screen and on the side, next time must go earlier to book... forgot that schools have finished with exams now...
Hmm still haven't hand in my IA report, will do it this friday I think along with registration of subjects and confirmation of my Final Year Project with my tutor. Gonna be a busy Friday.
Will be moving out to my Grandma's house on 1st of June now that my sis and bro going to Canada to study, so need to change address for my bank account, NTU, stockbroking account, driving license, etc... sigh more admin stuff again!! And my godma and Aunt will be leaving Singapore on Thursday, soon the house is gonna be quiet once again. Maybe after I graduate, go to Canada join my sis and bro as well... just a maybe...

Went with JC classmates to the wake of Mr Ong's wife tis morning, well he does seem to take it well but at times he does seem sad.... Well nonetheless he has put up a strong front all these while even when he was teaching us Chemistry in JC, since his wife has suffered from Cancer for quite some time...
Nearly the whole class turned up and had an informal kind of gathering and we did somehow consoled and cheered him up a bit I think. Glad that most could actually turned up, and most of those who can't they were either overseas or having sunday church.
Went to Bugis and had lunch, had oyster omlette again, dunno why i keep on craving for oysters these days....Oh and after the lunch drove to Orchard and took a longer route to view past this huge mansion, where there was this row of 5-6 sports cars parked on the garage and this is in Singapore where each of these Ferraris costs a cool $500,000 to $600,000 and this guy had 3-4 Ferraris and one $2 Million Pagani Zonda on his driveway!!!(the one of 2 in Singapore).... Wonder how some people earn their billions...His house was also outstanding, with one bald eagle statue that must be like a real lufe replica situated in the front porch with a fountain behind...
Went with Clement, Brenda, Huimin, Anna, and Ting yang for coffee at coffe club at Ngee Ann City after that and we chatted quite a bit... Especially abt holidays since the gals are graduating after their 3 year course at NUS Science...so one of them wnet Bangkok on this new budget airline in Singapore, valuair. Its just $138 for a round trip flight, sounds reasonable.
The night was spent watching the Formula One Grand Prix in Monaco, live telecast... great race, lots of changes and suprises... but Jarno Trulli deserved his 1st win on a Renault. At least Michael Schumacher's luck is broken and a Ferrari did not dominate. Sometimes support is required for the black horse, or the lesser team so that there will be new life to a competition...Reminds me of the recent upsets in the presidential election in India. Hope that a similar upset will be in place for George Bush's USA election... just dun agree with his political methods and war-like stance. (Hope i dun anger the pro-bush people here)
Oh and my mum got for me the new Singapore $10 plastic note...was hoping to get it on the release date itself but couldn't because of attachment. But I got it anyway and its a nice addition to my notes collection!!

Its the weekends again!! Yahoo!!
This week has been a real topsy turvy week.... First, had to rush through my IA report and then the Microsoft Word had to hang on me!! Damn Microsoft !!
Well fortunately I managed to write finish my report, but... the company's computer was so lousy that I had to print the report in sets of 7 or 8 pages and since my report is around 80 pages long, well had to continue printing 10 times... Sigh I suddenly miss NTU's library printer... or even my home printer for that matter since both are much faster than my co.'s printer. Then after that, I took leave on friday intending to collect my binded report to pass it up to NTU, until my supervisor called me to say he wants to ask the manager about the report, whether it can be cleared or not... , hmmm... that means I will need to hand it to my tutor on Monday, past the dateline.... all because of this.
Well talking about bad news, it never rains but pours!! Just heard from my college classmate that my college form tutor's wife just passed away recently... It's quite sad to think of it for the family and when you come to think of it, the one who is most grieved is the family... will be going to the wake tomorrow, with my classmates.
This weekend also allows some time for me to choose my subject specialisation for my 4th and last year in NTU, chose Bio-Medical Engineering specialization and arranged my timetable already, now for the difficult part, subject registration. But that doesn't come till next friday... so can relax for the moment, after all what comes will come its way!!

Back to work once again, but looking forward to the hols, coming soon in one months time!! Slept at 1.30 am yesterday all because of the live telecast of the Thomas Cup at Jakarta. Great match though and it was really deserving for China to win! But the runners up, Denmark put up a good fight, I nearly thought China was going to lose, since the 2nd doubles match, they were trailing behind by 6 points but managed to turn the tables around to achieve victory!!
This morning was rushing through my logbook for the NTU tutor's last visit since its what he wanna check for the interview. Phew it's over already and now no more writing logbooks... lets just hope they dun last minute ask us to hand in our logbook. Now it's the tricky part, finishing my report by this week, its only half done, and still no inspiration to write... (maybe just an excuse to slack) =D
Ok back to doing my report for now...

Finally managed to catch the movie 'Jiang Hu'. Watched it at Shaw House Lido yesterday with Sheng Da and Clement. Very good show, would rate it 3.5 stars out of 5. Though the director is a freshie, I think he makes a great first blockbuster. Though there was some parts of the movie taken from 'Infernal Affairs', the ending was morally right compared to 'Infernal Affairs' ending. The english title of 'Blood Brothers' seems to fit the storyline well too since the movie teaches us the values of loyalty and friendship as well as taking responsibility for your own actions.
Tried to look for space for dinner at Orchard after the movie, everywhere we go the restaurants are packed, seems there is a lack of good food around huh. It wasn't until one hour till we get a table at 'Din Tai Fung' at Paragon. Though I prefer the Xiao Long Bao at Crystal Jade, theirs wasn't too bad.
Reached home around 930 pm yesterday night and my Dad got a high fever, quite worried about it since he just had an operation. It was good that the fever subsided today. Oh yeah there's the final of the Uber Cup in Jakarta esterday and it was live telecast on SuperSports, China vs Korea (Females), which I think China won. The more exciting one will be today's final between China vs Denmark (Male) competing for the Thomas Cup. Can't wait to see that!!!

Thursday, May 13, 2004

Sent my Dad to Mt. Elizabeth Hospital in the morning before work since he has a minor operation, then it was raining very heavily yesterday, which was good since the weather has been sweltering hot at the beginning of this week. Visited my dad after work and he will be discharged today.
I think I really need to change my car tyres soon since it has been showing signs of wear, Furthermore the wheel needs alignment as the ride has signs of vibration at 110 km/h and above. More money spent, and also thinking of getting new alloy wheels since my present one is 15" only now, again more money required.
No wonder they say ín life money talks... Can't be helped since we are living in a capitalist-centred world today.
Yesterday was also the last episode of the TVB Drama 'Perish In The Name of Love', the show was excellent even though it does not follow what is in the history books. Somehow, this 'fictional' story seems to be more realistic, and I would have to say it was one of the best ever TVB drama I have ever seen. Looking forward to better dramas again in the future!

Got my FYP, phew (that was a relief) Dunno what I would do if I did not get any of my choices... Will be doing it with Prof. Lim Chu Sing, the last time I talked to him, he said I would most probably be doing projects related to microbial sensors. Guess I better catch up on my A Level Bio.
These few days have also been noticing the stock market, intending to do a little bit of investment myself, but it has been a topsy turvy week for the stock market. First there was the announcement by Wen Jiabao on the cooling down of China's Economy, then there's the rise in interest rates and then the Chechnya Blast and worst of all the rise in Oil Prices. Sigh, make sure i drive at 80km/h now to conserve fuel, or else need to spend more to top up the car.
Hehehe hopes I get the IPO of Chinacast that I applied for and hopes that it rises. Other than that it is just rushing through my logbook and IA Report for submission since my professor wants to go on a holiday at the end of May. Better do it fast, still got halfway to go...

Monday, May 10, 2004

The past weekend was good. Went canoeing at East Coast on Saturday and then headed to play Warcraft 3, playerd this Spiral Defense map and it was quite fun... but at the end of the game Yong Han lost his wallet poor thing... guess it's his bad luck that day? Just hope that he gets back his Driving License back. Then yesterday went out to meet up with Clinton and drank coffee at Coffee Bean. Talked about old friends and his course. It just amazes me how my secondary school friends are studying in different fields now, some are taking up dentistry, some medicine, then there's people taking business, computing, science, engineering. That's good at least when I graduate and need help in any areas can rely on them?
Yesterday's Formula One Race at Spain was the old same usual stuff, Michael Schumacher won again, and coming in second is the other Ferraro driven by Rubens. Wonder if the rule changes set last year was to improve competition or reduce it? Michael Schumacher has been winning all the races so far, and if this goes on, by the time the race goes to Shanghai, everyone do not need to watch already...
And then slept quite late last night, all because my brother wanted to download finish Naruto episode 82 and watched it before going to sleep. Cause me to be so sleepy on my way to work today. Maybe gonna have a nap later in the evening!

Wednesday, May 05, 2004

Very gloomy weather today at Jurong Island. It is raining very heavily and visibility is bad (can't even see the mainland from here, or the neighbouring isles). At least I got something to look forward today, that is my Dad is coming to Singapore so will be picking him up from airport tonight.
Then this weekend is actually Mother's Day, so perhaps might need to change the timing for the s20 class outing, since everyone will need to have dinner with their mum that day. Maybe watch the later shows... but then again, today's Life! Section of Straits Times seems to rate the movie 'Jiang Hu' poorly. Hope it would not be as bad as it is rated.
Yesterday's news regarding the abuse of Iraqis prisoners by the US Army showed once again of how things have gone wrong for US in Iraq. I think the present Bush government do not have the time to care about Iraq at the moment, since he and his cabinet members are busy preparing for his re-election. Furthermore, increasing reports of Iraqis feeling that they had a better time under Saddam's rule will cause more problems in Iraq. Morale of the story: Do not be stubborn and do things which others have advised you to refrain from.

Monday is over, the previous few posts I didn't realize there was something wrong with the time of post. It's because I have not adjusted the time settings.
Its 11 pm Singapore time now, and time for some end of the day journal writing. Went down to the plant site with a colleague today to check on an electrical problem and it was damn hot in the plant area, this is why I dun think I will choose to work in a petrochem plant when I graduate. Need to start looking for other sources I guess.
Received the latest episode of Naruto and the latest episode was good, but it makes me think that the Uchiha Itachi gang seems to resemble present day terrorist, wonder if that the author got the idea from this for his anime. And was thinking hard of why some times we just classify too easily of some as good and others as bad. I believe in any kind of conflict, both parties are at fault and there shouldn't really be any good or bad. After all, what you create something, you will need an equal amount of another thing. (This is the fundamental principles of physics and alchemist as extracted from Full Metal Alchemist) Perhaps this is what they meant by retribution and the cycle in Buddhist terms.

Back to Monday Blues once again... The past weekend was ok, not too bad, not too good. Spent Sunday afternoon shopping with my Mum, or more like drove her around Orchard so she can buy her cosmetics. FYP selection ends on Sunday at midnite, it seems they extended the deadline, and I can only know the results at the end of this week.
Was reading the online version of Straits Times this morning and there was another case of a Singaporean driving his car to JB only to find his car stolen when he returns to the carpark, guess I better not drive to JB in the near future. Another news that caught my eye was the Indonesian electioon. It seems that Susilo Bambang Yudhyono is looking as the hot favourite to be the head of state, such a pity for Megawati. This reminds me of a phrase from a Sidney Sheldon book, which goes like,"How much can a president accomplish within just four years of his presidency?" (note: 4 years since it is an American presidency they are talking abt here). So my guess is that even if Bambang becomes the president, he will just be replaced by another person at the next election, unless some miracle happens or good luck falls on him such that the country's corrupt officials suddenly feels they have enough money and needs no more.
The day has just started and I already feel lethargic, but there is still 6 hours more to go before I can reach home to start watching the new episode of Naruto, or maybe continue with my NFS-Underground on PS2. This is the good part of IA life, no worries of tutorials when you returnhome =D

Saturday, May 01, 2004

Just finished watching The Wesley Files on the Star Chinese Movies Channel. They have quite a lot of very good HK movies on that chaneel like Infernal Affairs was shown on that channel last month.
The show was so-so and the special effects was quite bad, frankly speaking. Sigh.. it's such a pity that good HK movies are getting less and less nowadays. Speaking of which a nice HK movie is showing soon in Singapore theaters. The title is (Jiang Hu), english title: Blood Brothers, and it has a stellar cast of Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, Eric Tsang... and I think this movie will be as popular as Infernal Affairs I. Now I just hope HK continues to churn out these type of good movies.
Looking at trends in games now, there seems to be a lot of people playing retro-style games that do not have those great 3D graphics but instead those 2D-cartoon like graphics. Point of case being Gunbound and Ragnarok Online. Though I do not play these games, my li'l bro plays them nearly everyday and the LAN Gaming Centres in Singapore seems to have a lot of people hooked on these games as well.
Logged onto NTU's website today and found out that the accountancy paper leak issue is resolved and no retake is necessary, glad for those accountacy students. The letter also states what leaked wasn't the answer but a marking guide... wonder if there is any difference hehehe =P

HAPPY LABOUR DAY !!

Hmm never thought i would write any web journals.... must be feeling real bored to be doing this..
Anyway wasn't able to go and sleep on a friday night so decided to blabber something on the net and not many friends are online.... Guess those NTU pple are busy with IA reports or burning midnite oil for exams or busy playing LAN
Anyway had a pretty boring day at the attachment company today, and the lunch food sucks as usual.... hoping to get back to Uni soon for normal lessons....sigh !! Also has been feeling very sleepy these few days when I wake up in the morning but seems to feel energetic at night, I wonder why????
Other than that, was feeling vexed about the FYP selection since there is 2 applicants picking the similar first choice as me, just wishing that I can get my 1st choice (wish me luck)
Meanwhile better get some sleep now....
