Yes it's finally the last day of IA!! Yesterday night we had a great discussion which finalized some stuff regarding the judges and events taking place on the 27th of August itself. Now will have to find time to book the trip to Redang. And tonight we will be treated to a meal at Bali Thai restaurant in IMM Jurong. Not bad for a farewell dinner, and I bought chocolates for my IA supervisor upon advice given by Brenda (Thanks!).
On another note, realised that Portugal won the match, thus kicking out England. I honestly can't judge whether it is set up such that a home team will at least advance far enough into advanced stages to keep the home crowd happy. It has been the case so far for many sports events like in World Cup 2002, Korea and Japan triumphed into the later stages of the competition and now in Euro 2004, Portugal advances to the semis.... wonder if they will clinch the trophy next, like what France did in World Cup 1998.
There is also just 6 more days before Spiderman 2 starts. The review in the TODAY newspaper was that this sequel is better than the 1st and the star ratings was on par with LOTR:The Return of the King. Now I just hope that the movie is truly that good. Have lost some hope in Marvel Comics-turned-Hollywood Movies recently with the failure of Hellboy, Van Hellsing, and The Punisher.
Yesterday at Jurong point also went to the 77th Street to check out the Crumpler Bag, it costs a hefty S$149, now will go to the Wheelock Place main shop to check out the colours and see if they have any freebies and/or discounts. Have been waiting to get this bag since a few months ago and now that my pay is out....hehehehe!

2 more days before I get to enjoy the one month holidays... Can't wait!!
Have been quite busy this week, (not in the company) but after work hehehe =D ! Tuesday evening went to meet up with Ben and Clement at Ochard. These 2 guys were like shopping for clothes, since Ben will be going to Vietnam. And it's the Great Singapore Sale so great bargains can be had!
Tuesday also went with my supervisor to take this sound analysis of the compressor since an abnormal noise can be heard from the compressor. Then today he is on leave, so I will be spending my time in front of the computer for the whole day again I guess!!
Well not too bad, at least my supervisor gonna give me and my colleagues a treat in the form a farewell dinner on Friday night after work! Then tonight have to go meet up with Brenda and SDK for discussion at JP. Sigh no chance to go home for Mum's cooking. And Mum's gonna go back to Indonesia on Saturday, will have to eat out for next week again!

Last week was a week worth spending, since it was spent well! Helped out in the briefing days for the NTU-Earthlink Solar Innovations 2004 on Friday and Saturday, the turnout for the event was good and the organising committee was great in arranging mot of the things. (Have to say that since I helped out hehehe!). Anyway, was promoted to main comm for the event and I guess we will start to get busy again in August.
Another good thing that came out of this event was that I actually met my secondary school classmate who was also helping out in the event. Though I still do keep in contact with many of them, it is always good to know you still have more friends around you!
Yesterday went to watch Jackie Chan's movie with my mum and my brother, and as usual, that guy is hilarious with his stunts co-ordination. The story and the movie wasn't too bad after all, wonder why it got so low in the ratings side. In fact this movie will provide some touching and comical scenes and definitely worth watching!
And yes there is only 5 more days to the end of IA!! Then the hols will start and it's time for fun! So must take this opportunity to savour my last week in Jurong Island.... (but can we can't actually 'savour' the smell of polluting petrochemical exhausts, can we?)

7 more days to go before the end of IA. After that will be a one month long break before starting the second last semester!!
Can start planning on the holiday trip already since I will be going to Indonesia during this inter-sem break! Come to think of it, it has been more than 1 year since I returned to Indonesia. Hmm, still not confirmed yet though since the day I go back will be around the presidential election day and Indonesia seems to be more unsafe at that week.
Yesterday finished downloading the 8th episode of the TVB drama 'Triumph In The Skies' and also finsihed watching it. Will be patiently waiting for the next few episodes. For those who have not watched the show, you can download it at http://www.diserv.tk. However you will need to have Bit Torrent, which is a peer-to-peer shareware (long live for all things free on the net)!!

Finally the cable modem is up and running!! I already knew the cable modem wasn't faulty, yet Starhub contractors insisted they were. Learnt one lesson from this, and that is not to trust those so called 'professional' contractors too easily, they can easily fraud you of your money too!! This is the case with me and my experience with Starhub, since I moved house, the signal in the new house has a problem so the contractor that came to activate the signal said the transponder and the cable modem needs to be changed and it works out to be around $160 altogether. However I said no and in the end they took the new modem and transponder with them, since they insisted my cable modem was spoilt. Yesterday I checked up the user's guide for the modem and checked that a blinking 'power' light is due to the modem doing startup diagnostics and I called the Starhub Technical Assistance hotline again. They promised to check it up for me and call me back but no calls again. Totally frustrated with their service attitude and to trust their contractors not being able to differentiate a faulty modem and a fully operating one!! (or I wonder if they were trying to force me to buy their old goods that was keeping dust in their warehouse!!) Anyway this is to warn people not to get taken in easily into being goaded to pay additional service before checking out alternatives!!
Was quite tired today when I went home and since my 2 little cousins went back to Malaysia already there was not much people left at home and more quiet as well. As for today's main news I guess it has to be England's defeat to France. I wonder why many find it shocking, given the fact that France world ranking is ten places higher than England's and England's fans are really a bit fanatical abt their team since they always feel indignant when England loses, like when they lost to Brazil in 2002. (Sorry if I have angered any England fans though) But I still believe that in any competition, the best team wins!

Last week there's this new HK movie 'Breaking News', actually I wanted to watch it, but due to unforeseen cricumstances.... Anyway would ask people out this week to watch this with me! Ended up at Kinokuniya with Clement on saturday, and he was buying some cancer-related books for his dad to read. There was also this season-discount of 20% off all books there so it was quite worth it.
Nearly spent the whole sunday playing ROTK IX on the Playstation, started with Sun Ce and have nearly conquered the area of Jiang Nan and setting my eyes upon Jiang Dong right now!! Really making Sun Ce the little conqueror here!!
My cable connection at home is not ready yet, and it's all because of Starhub's fault. First they sent a technician saying that signal wasn't activated yet then another contractor sent to switch on the signal said the cable modem was faulty. Checked with the user's guide of the modem and it says a flashing 'power' light means the modem is doing start-up diagnostics, seems that my modem is alright. More like its their new signal that's causing this problem..... To anyone out there looking for a broadband subscription, go choose Singnet instead. That way when you move house, no matter where you move to at least there is no need to worry about re-connection charges and all that!

It's reaching the weekends once again, and there seems to be much excitement on the upcoming Euro 2004 championships in Portugal. I know not all of the world is football-crazy but it seems to be the case in Singapore and much of Asia. I would prefer watching sports like badminton, tennis or F-1 though, (just my $0.02). Wondering if I should place a bet for the Euro 2004, for fun? and maybe gain some bit of money =)
Since my attachment is ending (can start to do countdown already), there goes the fixed income I am earning, so now to hope that the shares I bought will rise. It's further good news that the oil prices are dropping and it means cheaper fuel too!! However, the fuel prices in Singapore is still expensive, in fact everything is expensive here, will move out once I get the chance!!
Well today seems to be an extra quiet day on the company, with my supervisor and one colleague on leave, I am bored with no one to chat with and nothing to do... Sigh will just have to wait til 430 then!!

Tuesday, June 08, 2004

Very boring day yesterday, and a really depressing day indeed since the BOTH the cable TV and modem could not be activated and Starhub had the cheek to ask me to pay $80 for activation.... very unsatisfactory service from them! I think the service provided by previous SCV was better...they should not have merged in the 1st place.
Anyway Channel 5 was showing Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and it is just so different from the Prisoner of Azkaban, the kids then dun really know how to act but they do now!!
Oh and the biggest news yesterday was the death of Ronald Reagan. Actually he was the 1st US President I knew of since he was Prez of USA from 1980-1988, and since he was able to reign 2 terms, it just shows how good he was. But still he is a republican, and I do not generally agree with their policies, since they are 'war-happy'. Then this morning there was the news on the fines to be charged on taxi companies/drivers for the increasing rate of accidents involving taxis. LTA was setting up this regulation of having a maximum of a number of accidents for certain kilometres travelled, seems this is also to curb the increasingly large numbers of taxis plying the road today.

Wow, have not updated my blog for some time already huh....Actually it is because the Cable Internet Access at my new home has not been activated yet so I can only update on weekdays when I am at the office!!
Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban is out in Singapore on the 3rd of June and it was one day earlier than the scheduled date... I guess its because of the school hols now... Watched the movie on saturday and it was really packed at the cinema but the movie was well worth the money! It was definitely better than the 1st two episodes, so all those who have not watched it yet, I truly recommend you to go watch the movie!
There was the PC Show on Sunday and went to Singapore Expo to browse for a new laptop, but it seems the price over there is still expensive and it is much of a bargain to get it from Funan Centre or Sim Lim. The whole Expo was packed with people and was wondering why there are so many people looking for lousy bargains!
Yesterday night started to play Railroad Tycoon once again, hmm suprising how an old game can still be so good to play and enjoy. It wasn't until around 12 midnite until I went off to bed, sigh I shouldn't have slept so late, now feeling quite sleepy!!

Yesterday was Vesak Day... so it was a public holiday. Spent the whole day shifting things since I am moving out, so tiring!! Anyway also sent my Dad to the airport and it was raining heavily at one portion of ECP. However it gives me the chance to test the grip of the new tyres in wet conditions.
The new tyres are really good, albeit a bit noisy... Though my old tyres were more quiet, they just lack the steering feel and the road grip isn't that good. Never regretted getting this sport tyres!
My download of the TVB drama, Triumph In The Skies episode 1 and 3 is completed thru bit torrent but waiting for the 2nd episode to dl finish!! Anyone who knows any good bit torrent page for downloading TVB Hongkong dramas, do e-mail me!! Just dun wanna wait for the cable tv to show it already!

Brought my Biology text by Campbell for reading to my attachment company these 2 days... Was reading up on the DNA base pairing (Think A, G, C, T)and structure to prepare the literature review for my prof. Does bring back all those happy (or unhappy) memories of the lecture moments at CJ...
Went to Stamford Tyres at Dunearn Road yesterday evening to purchase a new sets of 'shoes' for my car. Actually I was eyeing the 16" alloy rims to go with the tyres but they ran out of stock for the design I wanted. So I went ahead with the 15" instead. It was only after work today that I managed to install the new alloys. It looks great on the car. Seems 15" was adequate, and saved my money and petrol since the 15" wheels will be more fuel-efficient!!
Proceeded to my grandma's house to move my stuff and got caught in a jam in the Benjamin Sheares Bridge.... that was real frustrating and tiring... Got back home quite late for dinner with parents and then went out again!! Reached home at around 1030 before I could get a rest and proceed with this blog !! Gotta go rest now!
